The formation of wrinkles and lines in the forehead area due to aging is considered a natural process.

How Is Forehead Lift Performed?

Forehead lift surgery can be performed with the traditional open approach or the endoscopic approach. The operation can be performed under local or general anesthesia. In the traditional open technique approach, a parallel incision can be made behind the natural hairline, or an incision can be made directly in front of the hairline. The forehead skin and eyebrows are separated from the underlying structures and raised upwards. Excess skin is cut off. The operation is completed by applying a suture or wire column.

Endoscopic forehead lift is a less invasive technique and is performed over a longer period of time. A few small incisions are made behind the hairline and the endoscope is placed under the skin in a position to clearly show the tissue and muscles. By inserting surgical instruments through another incision, the forehead skin is lifted and the muscles are weakened. After the forehead skin is fixed upwards, it is fixed with temporary sutures.

Before Forehead Lift Surgery

Healing Process After Forehead Lift Surgery

After the forehead lift surgery, dressings can be applied to the face and head, to the mouth and nose, to ensure that the tissues remain where they should be during the healing process and to reduce the formation of edema. This dressing is usually replaced with an elastic bandage the day after the operation and the patient is asked to continue using it for a few days.

In the early period after forehead lift surgery, edema may occur in and around the incisions, as well as bruising and swelling in the area around the eyes and on the forehead. The resulting edema usually starts to decrease after ten days from the operation. In order to reduce edema formation, it is recommended to apply cold compresses and keep the head elevated for the first few days following the operation.
