In both men and women, the fatty area above the genitals is called the mons pubis. The fatty tissue in this area protects the area behind the mons pubis from injury. With weight gain, the skin stretches to cover the fat that accumulates in the groin. Later, when there is a large weight loss, the amount of fatty tissue decreases, but the amount of skin does not change, causing loosening and sagging.
At younger ages and with small changes in weight, the elasticity of the skin is sufficient for it to return to its original state. However, skin elasticity decreases with age and how long the extra fat tissue remains in the area. In addition, the tendency for fatty deposits in the mons pubis may be due to a genetic predisposition. Or swelling of the mons pubis may also occur due to estrogen.
It is a surgical procedure used to remove excess skin and fatty tissue in cases where there is a visible swelling in the upper groin area due to weight gain or sagging skin. Monsplasty is often performed in combination with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Because after the fat in the abdominal area is removed and the skin is tightened with abdominoplasty surgery, the swelling in the mons pubis area becomes much more prominent.
Mons pubis aesthetics can be applied to people over the age of 18 who are aesthetically uncomfortable with the protruding and raised appearance in the region and who are psychologically and sexually negatively affected.
Mons pubis aesthetics can be applied using medical procedures such as lipolysis and liposuction as well as surgical procedure. The method to be applied is determined according to the patient’s problem and the degree of the problem.
Liposuction method can be preferred in cases where the patient does not have excess skin or sagging in the mons pubis area. The fatty tissue on the pubis is removed by liposuction method, the fatty tissue under the skin is reduced and the pubic mound is thinned.
In mons pubis aesthetics performed with lipolysis method, subcutaneous fat is melted by injection under the skin over the pubis.
Local or general anesthesia is applied to the patient before the mons pubis aesthetic surgery. After a horizontal incision is made in the lower abdomen, excess fat tissue and skin are removed. The underlying muscles and tissues are pulled upwards with the help of sutures, stretched and the mons pubis is reshaped. The incision is closed and the operation is finalized. The best results after mons pubis aesthetics can be obtained in people with a healthy weight.
The patient who wants to have mons pubis aesthetics is interviewed in detail and the examination process is completed. The patient’s complaint and expectation are learned. The conformity of the patient’s expectations regarding the result of the operation is evaluated. Before the operation, the patient must stop taking aspirin and derivative blood thinners, alcohol and smoking. He/she must quit.
After mons pubis aesthetics, edema may occur in the application area. The edema will resolve spontaneously in about 1 month. It is possible for the patient to return to daily life within a few days. For 1 week, sexual intercourse should be avoided.
The surgical procedure can be performed by liposuction and lipolysis.
