Rhinoplasty is one of the most preferred plastic surgeries by both women and men. With rhinoplasty, wide noses can be narrowed, large noses can be reduced and crooked noses can be corrected. With the incisions made for these purposes, the nasal bone roof is reduced and/or reshaped. In traditional methods, tools known as scrapers and osteotomes (hammer and chisel) are used to perform these operations.
These tools are not only relatively sharp and can cause contour irregularities if not used correctly. There are different applications in minimally invasive methods, the frequency of it is increasing day by day. Ultrasonic Piezo, which is a technology in which sound waves are used to shape the nasal bones much more sensitively and much less traumatically than traditional techniques, is one of these techniques.
It is a system that converts piezo electrical energy into ultrasound and allows the surgeon to shape the nasal bones, thin them if necessary, or even cut them without damaging other sensitive nasal tissues. In this method, ultrasonic vibrations with a frequency of 25-29 kHz are used to change the shape of the bone. In this way, damage to all soft tissues affected by frequencies above 50 kHz, such as skin, mucous membranes, vessels and nerves, is prevented.
Ultrasonic Piezo device can be used in both open and closed rhinoplasty surgeries to shape the nasal bone. People who will be applied Ultrasonic Piezo must first meet the necessary criteria for rhinoplasty. It can be a suitable method for people who are concerned about the visibility of external incisions, especially after the healing process.
Ultrasonic Piezo can be preferred in cases where the nasal bridge needs to be removed and narrowed. Since even the thinnest bones can be shaped safely, conditions that may cause revision rhinoplasty, such as collapse of the bones, can also be eliminated.
Ultrasonic piezo surgery can be applied in open and closed rhinoplasty. The cutting and shaping of the bone are performed with motor systems. Thanks to the ultrasonic Piezo method, it is possible to visualize the nasal bones in detail and to make the cut with millimetric measurements. In this way, the soft tissues and capillaries between the nasal bones are not damaged. At the same time, swelling and bruising almost never occur compared to traditional methods. Since the cutting of the bones can be done in a more controlled way, the desired nose structure can be created much more easily.
The preoperative evaluation process is very important in order to select suitable patients for Ultrasonic Piezo. Apart from the physical examination, detailed information should be obtained on many subjects such as the patient’s medical history, the drugs he is using, and his chronic diseases.
One week before the operation, the use of aspirin and similar blood thinners should be discontinued. In order to optimize the healing process, smoking should be stopped at least 2 weeks before the surgery, and smoking and nicotine-containing products should be avoided for 2 weeks after the surgery. Smoking delays healing and increases the risk of complications, especially poorly healed scarring.
Recovery after Ultrasonic Piezo surgery takes around 10-14 days. Since it is a method that reduces soft tissue trauma to zero, bruising and swelling are almost non-existent. The swelling usually resolves spontaneously within the first week. It may be useful to use the nasal spray recommended by the doctor to eliminate possible breathing difficulties due to swelling. In order to reduce swelling, you should sleep with the head elevated for a while.
Since the soft tissue surrounding the blood vessels and cartilage are not damaged, the postoperative recovery process is faster and the pain is much less. Patients can return to their daily activities in approximately 7-10 days. It is necessary to avoid strenuous activities for at least three weeks and to protect the nose from bumps or accidents. Glasses should not be used for 3 months after the operation and you shouldnt be exposed to direct sunlight without sunscreen cream.
Ultrasonic Piezo surgery can be applied in both open and closed rhinoplasty.
Ultrasonic Piezo surgery, which can be used in almost all patients, can be very advantageous in large and wide noses. It is often preferred in cases where the nose belt is taken, shaped, cut or narrowed.
Facial bruising and swelling is much less and recovery time is shorter. The shaping of the nose is much easier with this technique. Soft tissues and capillaries are also not damaged.
During ultrasonic Piezo surgery, the soft tissues and capillaries between the nasal bones are not damaged. Therefore, little or no bruising and swelling may occur.
